Montreal, January 10, 2017 — The Aluminium Association of Canada welcomes the appointments of both Chrystia Freeland and François-Phillipe Champagne to External Affairs and International Trade Canada. According to Jean Simard, President and CEO of the Aluminium Association of Canada, “Mrs. Freeland has strong expertise in assessing and understanding international trade issues, as ably demonstrated in her very capable handling of the final round of negotiations with Europe on CETA. As for Mr. Champagne, his private sector background in international business, gives him the extra edge to contribute in writing Canada’s next chapter on trade diplomacy. “

With its close to 10,000 employees from across Canada, the Canadian aluminium industry exports its low carbon footprint aluminium to the USA, Europe and Asia. It is one of the most trade-exposed industry in Canada.
